Soil, 2019 -

Synthetic and natural yarn.

Soil  exposes the ongoing side effects of hormonal birth control through data-based weaving. This rough terrain of tapestries is intertwined with a codex that fuses each symptom with a specific range of colours. The palette reflects the seasons; from the damp mud to a crisp breeze, as if to time-stamp each piece. This codex is public, to add to the popular debate around the drug that began in the 1960s. It is now widely accepted by the western world and is used by millions of women. They choose to focus on the high peaks over the canyons that the medication creates; ignoring nausea, migraines, and other symptoms that they have been told will pass. Do they ever pass? Or do we just become numb to the pain?
